A dozen Dublin families lost everything this week: Here's how to help

Some heartbreaking news close to home. More than a dozen families are without a place to live this week after a fire broke out at the Asherton of Dublin apartment complex on Sunday.
Investigators say the fire was accidental and, thankfully, no one was hurt. But the damage is real. Residents had to evacuate quickly — some with only seconds to grab what they could — and many got out with little more than the clothes they were wearing.
The Red Cross helped cover a few nights of housing, but those families are now largely on their own. A fence has gone up around the building, so residents can't get back in. That means belongings, photos, and important paperwork are still sitting in apartments they can't access — including, for some families, documents tied to their immigration status.
To make things harder, residents say the insurance they paid into through the complex doesn't actually cover their personal belongings. And so far, they say apartment management hasn't given them a clear path forward.
The good news: One Dublin has stepped in. The organization is collecting donations and making sure the money goes directly to the affected families. They've already raised about $15,000 in just a few days.

Something new is coming to Sawmill Road

Something new is coming to Sawmill Road — right on that stretch between Trader Joe's and Meijer.
Plans are moving forward for a small retail center called Aura Dublin, going up on the corner of Sawmill and Martin Drive. About 8,000 square feet of space, with room for one to four tenants, and leasing just opened up.
The fun part? Nobody knows yet what's actually coming. Could be a new restaurant, a coffee spot, a couple of small shops — anyone's guess. Got a wishlist? Hit reply. We're genuinely curious what folks would want to see.
And if you're a local business owner thinking about a spot of your own — this is a rare opening in one of Dublin's busier corridors. Worth a look.
It's also part of Dublin's bigger Bridge Street District push to make Sawmill feel a little more walkable. So instead of another building floating in the middle of a parking lot, this one is designed to face the corner with the sidewalk in mind. A small change, but the kind of thing that adds up over time.

This Dublin operation is doing something pretty cool

You might not know it, but one of the more interesting things happening in town is being run out of a building on North Street.
Accelerating Angels is a Dublin-based investment group founded in 2022 by Cindi Englefield and Mary McCarthy. Their mission: put real money behind women-led startups. The reason matters — only about 2% of all U.S. venture capital currently goes to women-founded companies. That's the gap they're trying to close.
A few years in, they've already invested in a handful of companies. And the pitch to investors is simple: women founders historically produce returns about 35% higher than their male counterparts. So it's not charity — it's a smart bet that hasn't been getting made enough.
The best part? You don't have to be a millionaire to plug in. They host events open to anyone curious about angel investing, and the foundation side takes donations too. Quiet, important work happening right here — and worth knowing about.
