A Dublin Family Could Use Our Help

If you’ve wondered what would happen to the relatively new Torchy’s Tacos building on Dublin-Granville Road, we finally have an answer.

According to Columbus Business First, Café Zupas is taking over the space.

If you haven’t been to one, Café Zupas is a fast-casual restaurant focused on soups, salads, sandwiches and bowls. The Utah-based chain already has several locations around Central Ohio and has been expanding pretty quickly here.

What makes this location a little unusual is how new the building is. Torchy’s opened there in November 2023, in a brand-new restaurant built on the former Ruby Tuesday property. Then earlier this year, Torchy’s pulled out of the Columbus market and closed this location along with its other remaining Central Ohio restaurant.

So Café Zupas will be moving into a restaurant that’s only about three years old at 3726 W. Dublin-Granville Road, near Sawmill Road.

We haven’t seen an opening date yet, but at least we now know what’s replacing Torchy’s.

If you happen to see Abraham Lincoln walking around the Dublin library Sunday afternoon, there’s a pretty good explanation.

Kevin Wood, a professional Lincoln portrayer who has been doing this for more than 25 years, is coming to Dublin.

And this isn’t just someone putting on a top hat and reading a few Lincoln quotes. Wood has made thousands of appearances around the country portraying the 16th president, and his program is presented entirely from Lincoln’s perspective.

He’ll take the audience from Lincoln’s childhood on the frontier through his rise to the presidency and the Civil War, weaving in words from Lincoln’s actual speeches and writings along the way.

The program is called Abraham Lincoln: A New Birth of Freedom, and it’s part of the Dublin Historical Society’s Second Sunday Speaker Series and this year’s America 250 celebration.

It’s happening Sunday, Sept. 13, from 3 to 4:30 PM at the Dublin Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library. The library lists it for adults and teens ages 12 to 17, and registration is available.

Some heartbreaking news about a Dublin family that could use a little help right now.

On July 22, 18-month-old Cami was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia after her parents, Julia and Jake, spent several days trying to figure out why she wasn’t feeling well.

As if that wasn’t enough for one family to take on, Julia was 38 weeks pregnant at the time.

So instead of spending those last few days getting ready to become a family of four, Julia and Jake suddenly found themselves at Children’s Hospital learning about Cami’s treatment and what the months ahead would look like. Their second child, Parker, has since arrived, and they’re now splitting their time between a newborn at home and Cami at the hospital.

Friends and family started a GoFundMe to help take some of the financial pressure off — medical expenses, meals and all the unexpected costs that come with spending this much time at the hospital.

And people have responded. More than 380 people have already donated over $56,000 toward the $60,000 goal.

Julia and Jake say what they want most right now is prayers for Cami, their family and the doctors and nurses caring for her. They’d also love to hear from families who have been through AML themselves.
