A First for Dublin Schools: a Worlds Award in Robotics
Quick bit of good news from Houston: the Dublin Schools robotics team just brought home the Judge's Award from the World Championships last week — the first time the district has ever won at that level.

They finished 5-5 in competition, but the Judge's Award is the real story. It goes to teams that stand out for something unique, beyond wins and losses. So our kids didn't just hold their own at Worlds — the judges noticed them specifically.
Big win for the program, and a really nice thing to see come out of our schools.

New Dublin Rules for e-Bikes, Scooters and Mini-Motorcycles

If your kid rides an e-bike, scooter, hoverboard, or anything else electric and small, Dublin updated its rules recently — and there are a few worth knowing for keeping everyone safe.
The biggest one: helmets are now required for anyone under 16, electric or manual. Parents are also treated as responsible parties under the new rules, so if your kid forgets a helmet, that falls on you too.
Where these things can be ridden: streets with speed limits of 25 mph or lower, sidewalks, and shared-use paths. When you park, leave 4 feet of sidewalk clear and try not to block entrances, ramps, or driveways — basic neighborly stuff. HOAs may have their own rules on top of that.
One thing worth flagging for safety: mini motorcycles, ATVs, and dirt bikes are no longer allowed on Dublin streets, sidewalks, paths, or parks. They were genuinely tricky mixed in with foot and bike traffic.
The city has the full rules with a device-by-device matrix on their site — worth bookmarking if your family has a few of these things kicking around.

A Grizzell Sixth Grader Wants Your Old Batteries
How many dead batteries are sitting in a drawer somewhere in your house? A sixth grader at Grizzell Middle School, Amogh M., is hoping you'll bring them his way.

He's running a battery recycling drive through May 18 with a goal of collecting 1,000 to 1,500 batteries. Here's how it started: Amogh was playing with his RC car when he noticed the battery was leaking. He looked into it, learned that old batteries can contaminate soil and water when they end up in landfills, and decided to do something about it. He worked with the school principal, customized collection boxes, and even went on the morning announcements to rally other kids.
The drive partners with Staples, which means only AA, AAA, C, D, and 9V can be accepted. Other types have to be recycled elsewhere.
Drop them off at Grizzell Middle School before May 18 and help him hit the number.
