A New College Is Coming to Dublin

If you're still finishing up enrollment paperwork for Dublin City Schools, you've got company. Right now there are 175 applications sitting nearly done, just waiting on one or two last documents — and the team on the other end is putting in weekends to clear the pile before the first day of school.

Elizabeth Kefalonitis runs enrollment for the district, and her checklist is the same for every family: two proofs of residency, a birth certificate or passport, a photo ID, and immunization records. Some situations need a bit more — TB test results, custody paperwork, an old report card. If you've got a form sitting on your counter you keep meaning to scan and send, now's the time.

One thing worth knowing: Dublin doesn't do open enrollment. You have to actually live here. As Kefalonitis put it, "this is where you're waking up and getting your mail and eating your breakfast each day" — no exceptions, no workarounds.

Every 911 call in Dublin, Hilliard, Upper Arlington, and Worthington runs through the same room, right here at the Dublin Justice Center.

That's NRECC — the Northwest Regional Emergency Communications Center — and they're hiring. Two paths in: if you've already got dispatch experience, there's a lateral entry role. If you're starting fresh, there's an entry-level position with training built in. Either way, it's shift work — nights, weekends, and holidays included, with assignments based on seniority — because emergencies don't keep business hours.

It's not just call-taking, either. Dispatchers run multi-channel radios, coordinate backup across departments, and work with mapping and dispatch systems most of us will never see, all while staying calm enough to get someone the help they need in real time.

Dublin's getting a brand-new college campus, and it's aimed squarely at healthcare.

South College — a healthcare-focused college founded in 1882, with existing campuses in Tennessee, North Carolina, Georgia, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Texas — just announced its first Ohio campus, right here in the Atrium building in the office park just north of Tuttle Mall. Classes start this October, with the full campus expansion planned for early 2027.

Scott Teffeteller, a healthcare executive with more than 30 years of experience including running a healthcare network, is taking over as the campus's president. The timing tracks with real regional numbers: central Ohio's population is projected to grow 30% over the next 25 years, according to the region's own planning commission. And an aging population needs more healthcare, not less — which is exactly the workforce this campus is built to train.

The first programs out of the gate are Health Science, Pre-Nursing, Pre-Pharmacy, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Radiography, and Surgical Technology. Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Medical Assisting, and bachelor's-level programs are planned to follow as additional approvals come through.

Feels like a genuinely good fit for this town. Between Mount Carmel Dublin and OhioHealth Dublin Methodist, this is already a place with real hospital infrastructure — and now there's a campus working toward training the next generation of nurses, techs, and sonographers right here instead of somewhere else entirely.
