Why Everyone Around Here Knows His Name
Jonathan Alder High School is only about 15 minutes from Dublin.
And unlike the Shamrocks, Panthers or Celtics, its namesake isn't a mascot. Jonathan Alder was an actual person—and his story is pretty remarkable.
Alder was just 8 years old when he was captured by Native Americans in 1782. He was later adopted into a Mingo family and spent years living among Native American communities before eventually settling near what is now Plain City.
That unusual life is what caught the attention of local playwright Daniel Rodriguez Hijo.
He started wondering why a school was named after one guy, began researching Alder, and ended up writing an entire one-man play about him.
Now that play is coming to Dublin. “Path of the Pioneer” stars Central Ohio actor Verne Hendrick as Alder, looking back on a life spent between Native American and European-American communities during the early years of Ohio.
It's at the Abbey Theater this Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m., with a final Sunday performance at 2 p.m. You can order your tickets here.

Putting Out a Sign? Not So Fast
Election signs are starting to pop up around Dublin again.
But just because you see one somewhere doesn't mean it's actually allowed to be there.
The city is reminding residents that campaign signs can't be placed in public rights-of-way, tree lawns, parks or roundabouts.
They also can't block a driver's view or create another safety hazard.
If you're putting one on private property, you'll need the property owner's permission.
And once the election is over, Dublin will again collect old campaign signs for recycling.
So if you're about to stake one into the ground, it might be worth checking exactly whose ground you're putting it in. And you can read more about the rules here.

A Three-Year Dublin Investigation
Some police work gets noticed right away. Other cases take years.
For Dublin Detective Sergeant Jacob Williams, one of those cases lasted three years.
And the other day, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office recognized him for it.
Williams received the 2026 Law Enforcement Award for his work with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, including a complex three-year investigation involving a juvenile survivor.
Prosecutors specifically credited Williams with making sure the victim was heard and supported throughout the entire process.
It’s the kind of difficult work most of us never see. So it’s nice to see one of Dublin’s own recognized for doing it.

A Note From Nick
You Asked How to Help. Here’s How.
A few of you have reached out asking how you can support Dublin Daily — and honestly, it means a lot just to hear that. Here's what actually helps.
The single biggest thing: forward this to a neighbor, a friend, or anyone who loves Dublin and might not know we exist yet. Word of mouth is everything for a local newsletter. Or just share dublinohiodaily.com next time Dublin comes up in conversation.
If you ever have a tip — a local business worth spotlighting, an event coming up, something happening in your neighborhood — hit reply and tell us. That's the fuel that keeps this going.
We also have sponsors who make Dublin Daily free. If something catches your eye, click their links — it makes a real difference.
Thanks for being here. Dublin is a better place to live when we're all looking out for each other — and that's really what all this is about.
