Dublin's August Numbers Are Off the Charts

If August has felt unusually wet, you’re not imagining it. Dublin has already picked up 7.08 inches of rain this month — almost twice the 3.74 inches we typically get in the entire month of August.

And it’s only August 18.

Dublin's August Numbers Are Off the Charts

A lot of that rain has come in waves, with storms repeatedly rolling through over the past couple of weeks — some bringing tornadoes and damaging winds along with them.

And as soggy as it’s been here, other parts of Ohio have had it much worse. New Lexington in Perry County has picked up nearly 13 inches this month, with serious flooding that led to dozens of water rescues over the weekend.

So with nearly two weeks of August still to go, Dublin has already received almost two months’ worth of August rain. We’ll see where the total ends up.

Bristol Republic Finally Has an Opening Date

A few months ago, we told you that Short North barbecue and live music favorite Bristol Republic was heading to Bridge Park — and promised we’d keep you posted when we had an exact opening date.

Well, now we have one.

Bristol Republic Finally Has an Opening Date

Bristol Republic is set to open September 10, according to Bridge Park.

If you missed our original story, Bristol Republic is bringing its 18-hour brisket, Texas-style ribs, Southern brunch and regular live music to 4495 Bridge Park Ave.

And it’s actually two concepts in one. The same space will also include The Saddle Club, a new cocktail and whiskey lounge with live jazz Wednesday through Saturday and DJs Friday and Saturday nights.

So whether you’ve been waiting for the brisket or just wishing Dublin had another place to catch live music, September 10 is the date to watch.

Bridge Park Is Booming. So Why Are Other Offices Empty?

A few of you have reached out saying the same thing lately — Dublin keeps announcing new companies moving into Bridge Park, but drive past the older office parks such as near Tuttle Crossing and there's clearly room to spare. It’s a fair point, and something worth giving some thought.

Bridge Park Is Booming. So Why Are Other Offices Empty?

Part of the answer is that not all office space is the same. A lot of those older buildings went up in the '80s and '90s, back when companies wanted big suburban offices where hundreds of employees worked under one roof. Since COVID, that kind of lease isn’t need as much anymore — remote and hybrid work means fewer companies need that much space in one place. Bridge Park was built for what came next: smaller footprints, with restaurants, apartments, and hotels right outside the door. Cenovus Energy is bringing about 120 jobs there. Updox, Stifel Nicolaus, and others made the same move.

So here's the actual answer to the "why is office space sitting empty" question: it's not that Dublin has too much of it. It's that what's already here doesn't always match what companies want today. And a few of you are right to push on this — between Bridge Park, the new Metro Center, and the West Innovation District, the city's clearly focused on landing what's next. Filling and reimagining the buildings we already have deserves some attention too.

You Asked How to Help. Here’s How.

A few of you have reached out asking how you can support Dublin Daily — and honestly, it means a lot just to hear that. Here's what actually helps.

The single biggest thing: forward this to a neighbor, a friend, or anyone who loves Dublin and might not know we exist yet. Word of mouth is everything for a local newsletter. Or just share dublinohiodaily.com next time Dublin comes up in conversation.

If you ever have a tip — a local business worth spotlighting, an event coming up, something happening in your neighborhood — hit reply and tell us. That's the fuel that keeps this going.

We also have sponsors who make Dublin Daily free. If something catches your eye, click their links — it makes a real difference.

Thanks for being here. Dublin is a better place to live when we're all looking out for each other — and that's really what all this is about.
