Turns Out a Lot of People Needed That 270 Warning
A few weeks back, we told you Dublin police and several other local agencies were running a week-long crackdown on I-270, aimed at speeding and reckless driving. Turns out a lot of people needed that heads-up more than we thought.
The blitz ran July 19–25, and by the time it wrapped, the Columbus Dispatch reports, officers had handed out 961 citations — including 19 to drivers going over 100 mph. On top of the speeding tickets, there were 84 seat belt citations, 121 for distracted driving, and two arrests for impaired driving.
Dublin police were one of several departments involved, alongside Columbus, Gahanna, the county sheriff's office, and the State Highway Patrol. The blitz ran during what's called the "100 Deadliest Days of Summer" — the stretch between Memorial Day and Labor Day when serious crashes tend to spike nationally. Franklin County's had more fatal crashes than any county in Ohio over the past five years, so the timing wasn't random.

Free Hot Dogs and Fishing With Cops — Tonight
Tonight's National Night Out — Dublin Police's community cookout, 6 to 8 p.m. outside the Justice Center at 6565 Commerce Parkway.
The food's free and there's plenty of it — hot dogs, chips, ice cream, the works. Kids can try their hand at Touch-A-Cruiser, catch a drone demo, or head over to the new Cops & Bobbers spot to fish alongside an officer. There's a passport thing this year too — fill it out and you walk away with a prize.
Park at City Hall, 5555 Perimeter Drive — there'll be signs and officers pointing you toward the fun.
It's a good excuse to put faces to the people who patrol your neighborhood, minus the usual reason you'd run into them.

Dublin Post Office Killings Case Resurfaces
An update on the 2017 Dublin post office killings is likely to bring back some hard memories for people who remember that December. The man who killed two of our neighbors is now seeking release from the federal psychiatric facility where he's been held since 2019, when he was found not guilty by reason of insanity in their deaths.
The victims were his own supervisors at the time. According to the Columbus Dispatch, a federal court is now weighing his request, and prosecutors are opposing it.
Our thoughts remain with the victims' families and everyone still affected by this.
