Oktoberfest Is Coming to Shawnee Hills

If you’re looking for something to do Saturday, our neighbors in Shawnee Hills are taking over part of Dublin Road for Oktoberfest.

From 2–7 p.m., there’ll be food, crafts, local vendors and music along Dublin Road from around Bridges End and Iacono’s all the way down to Shawnee Station.

Oktoberfest Is Coming to Shawnee Hills

They’re setting up a children’s area in the Morgan House parking lot with free activities, face painting and goodies, so this isn’t just a beer-and-bratwurst kind of Oktoberfest.

And for the adults, Shawnee Hills’ DORA will be in effect, so you can grab a drink and walk around while you check everything out.

Parking is available in the Shawnee Square lot, and the whole thing runs from 2–7 p.m. Saturday.

That’s a pretty easy Saturday afternoon if you’re looking for something close to home.

Dublin's Trick-or-Treat Date is Now Set

We’re still a month away from Halloween, but if trick-or-treat is a big deal at your house, Dublin has set the date.

It’s Thursday, October 29, from 6–8 p.m.

Dublin's Trick-or-Treat Date is Now Set

And yes, Halloween is actually Saturday this year. Dublin follows the regional schedule used by many Central Ohio communities, which moves trick-or-treat to Thursday when Halloween falls on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The idea is to avoid conflicts with things like Friday night football, Saturday games and Sunday church services — with safety also factoring into the schedule.

One other thing worth knowing: the date won’t change if it rains. The city says trick-or-treat goes ahead rain or shine, with parents left to decide whether the weather is good enough for their kids to participate.

So if you’ve got kids, and this is your thing, October 29 is the night to put on the calendar.

Dublin’s Deer Hunt is About to Start

We’ve known for a while that Dublin plans to reduce our growing deer population.

The other day, City Council cleared the final hurdle.

Dublin’s Deer Hunt is About to Start

Starting Nov. 1, trained USDA sharpshooters will begin killing deer at selected locations around Dublin, mostly in city parks and other city-owned property. Parts of Muirfield Village Golf Club are on the approved list too.

The work will continue through March, although not every approved location will necessarily be used. The city will put up signs where the culling is taking place and send information to every Dublin household before it begins.

And just to be clear, this doesn’t mean hunting is now allowed in Dublin. Council’s vote specifically makes an exception for the USDA sharpshooters doing this work.

The city estimates there are 528 deer in Dublin and says the population has been causing a growing number of problems.

If you want to know more before this starts, the city is holding a public meeting Oct. 8 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.

A Note From Nick

You Asked How to Help. Here’s How.

A few of you have reached out asking how you can support Dublin Daily — and honestly, it means a lot just to hear that. Here's what actually helps.

The single biggest thing: forward this to a neighbor, a friend, or anyone who loves Dublin and might not know we exist yet. Word of mouth is everything for a local newsletter. Or just share dublinohiodaily.com next time Dublin comes up in conversation.

If you ever have a tip — a local business worth spotlighting, an event coming up, something happening in your neighborhood — hit reply and tell us. That's the fuel that keeps this going.

We also have sponsors who make Dublin Daily free. If something catches your eye, click their links — it makes a real difference.

Thanks for being here. Dublin is a better place to live when we're all looking out for each other — and that's really what all this is about.
