A Short North Favorite is Heading Our Way

Bristol Republic — the Short North favorite for barbecue and live music — is finally opening its Bridge Park location this June.

They're bringing more than just the menu, too. Alongside the restaurant (which will keep the 18-hour brisket, Texas-style ribs, Southern brunch, and live music) they're also opening a brand new cocktail and whiskey lounge called The Saddle Club.

The two concepts share the same space at 4495 Bridge Park Ave but offer different experiences. Bristol Republic is the BBQ-and-live-music side. The Saddle Club is more of an intimate spot for cocktails and whiskey, with live jazz Wednesday through Saturday, DJs on weekends, and room for private events up to 50 people.

If you've been wishing Dublin had a regular live music venue, this is it. Bridge Park's developers are calling it the neighborhood's first live music destination.

No exact opening date yet, but we'll keep you posted. Got a Short North favorite you'd like to see make the move out here? Reply and let us know.

Two Dublin road closures worth knowing about

Just a quick rundown so you can plan your routes.

Paving's getting underway on Rings Road between Avery and Wilcox. The work covers several roundabouts in that stretch, so expect a few short delays. Woerner Temple is the official detour.

On Monday May 12, Memorial Drive will be closed between Avery and Muirfield from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a hard closure between Kirkwall and Berkshire courts. Brand Road is the detour. This is part of the city's tunnel maintenance — they're sprucing up the Memorial Drive pedestrian tunnel before the Memorial Tournament rolls into town.

And on Wednesday May 14, the new HAWK crosswalk signal goes live on Muirfield Drive at Sells Mill. If you've never used one before, it's a smart crosswalk that only stops traffic when someone's actually crossing — a real safety upgrade for the kids walking and biking to Scottish Corners Elementary. The city says a video is coming next week walking folks through how it works.

Drive safe out there.

A Dublin Flower Sale is Funding 85 Veterans’ Trip to DC

Quick one with some local timing: the Washington Township Fire Department is in the middle of their annual flower sale this weekend, and every dollar goes to sending senior veterans to D.C. to visit their memorials. Today is the last day.

Hanging baskets — sun or shade — are $25 each, and they take cash, check, or credit card. The sale runs 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Fire Station 91, 6255 Shier Rings Road, with proceeds going to Honor Flight Columbus.

The reason this one matters: on June 10, about 85 senior veterans from World War II, Korea, and Vietnam are flying to Washington with local firefighters serving as their guardians. The flowers you pick up this weekend are paying for that trip.

If you've been meaning to grab something for Mother's Day or just want to brighten up the porch, it's a pretty easy way to do something good while you're at it.
