Here’s Why Trees Are Coming Down on Dublin Road

Courtney D'Angelo's been dancing at the Irish Festival for a couple of years now, and there's a good chance you've watched her without realizing she's from right here in Dublin.

This year she's sharing the stage with the Gardiner Brothers — the viral Irish dance duo you may have seen doing step routines to Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift on social media. She's known them for over a decade, ever since they toured together with Riverdance, and she's performed in their shows before. This year she's up there with them again, along with a few other Riverdance dancers flown in just for the weekend.

It's the Gardiner Brothers' second year at the Festival, and they've said it's one of the best crowds they get anywhere. They're bringing something new this time — a 10-minute piece they're calling "Clockwork Jams" — plus two completely different sets across the weekend, so it's worth going more than once if you can.

If you've driven down Dublin Road toward Historic Dublin lately, you've probably noticed the trees coming down on that big lot along the river — and you're not the only one asking what's going on.

That property used to be one of Dublin's more remarkable homes — a 13,000-square-foot riverfront estate built in the late '80s, with its own pool and tennis courts. It sold in 2011 for $1.5 million, briefly went back on the market near $2 million the following year without finding a buyer, then sat quiet for over a decade. It finally sold again in February 2024 for $2.8 million.

That sale turned out to be the start of something bigger. A plan for seven homes on the 12.79-acre property went before the city in early 2025, and it didn't sail through — the planning commission pushed back hard on house size, density, and grading, sending it back for revisions. It came back changed, and city council approved it in November, seven votes to nothing.

Here's the part most people probably don't know: the original house is staying. Only the tennis court, a couple of outbuildings, and the old driveway are coming out to make room for six new homes around it, each on lots ranging from just under an acre to just over three. Getting there means clearing 65 of the site's 169 trees, which is likely what's been catching people's eye the last few weeks.
