Dublin
High School Redistricting is Back on the Table

There's no easy way to write about this one, so let's just say it plainly: Dublin's high school redistricting is back, and it's the kind of topic families in town feel strongly about — in a lot of different directions.

Here's where things stand. The school board is reviewing criteria that will guide the redrawing of boundaries for Coffman, Jerome, and Scioto for the 2027–28 school year. Last fall, the district paused an earlier attempt after community pushback. This is the second go at it.

The proposed criteria is supposed to put student enrollment and building capacity first, with the goal of balancing enrollment across the three high schools while reassigning as few students as possible. Other listed factors include safe transportation, proximity to schools, traffic patterns, and infrastructure like crosswalks and pedestrian routes. Students currently in non-transport zones wouldn't be moved.

The board is expected to vote on the criteria on May 21, then hand it to an outside consultant to draft a proposed map. That map is expected June 29, though the superintendent said the timeline could shift.

Reactions from parents at this week's meeting were mixed. Some said this round feels like the district is genuinely listening. Others raised concerns about transparency, the timeline, traffic, and how a redrawn map could affect student safety and travel times — particularly around the Scioto River and the limited ways across it.

If you want to follow this or weigh in, board meetings are open to the public and posted afterward. The district also has a dedicated redistricting page at dcsredistricting.com for ongoing updates and community input opportunities.

Whatever direction it lands, the decisions made over the next several weeks will affect a lot of Dublin families. Worth knowing what's being discussed.

Wendy’s Could Be Going Private (Here’s What We Know)

Some news out of one of Dublin's most recognizable corners: there are reports that Nelson Peltz, a longtime Wendy's investor who already owns about 16% of the company, is looking for backers to potentially take our hometown burger chain private.

To be clear, this is still in the "talks and exploring" stage. Peltz's firm has been having conversations with outside investors, including some in the Middle East, about funding a buyout. Nothing's been formally announced. But the news was enough to send Wendy's stock up 17% on Tuesday, which suggests Wall Street thinks something real might happen.

Why this is even being discussed: Wendy's stock has been declining for four straight years, and the chain just posted its fifth straight quarter of falling US same-store sales. The whole fast-food industry has been struggling with people eating out less, but Wendy's has been hit particularly hard.

What going private would actually mean for the Dublin headquarters — and the people who work there — depends entirely on what new owners decide. Private ownership can sometimes mean more flexibility to make strategic changes; it can also mean restructuring and cost cuts. Way too early to know.

Worth keeping an eye on. Wendy's is one of Dublin's most recognized names, and the next few months could matter for both the company and the folks who call it home base.
