What's Going On Inside This Dublin Lab?

There's a good chance you've got a Nestlé product somewhere in your house, even if you don't realize it.

Coffee-Mate, Nescafé, Gerber baby food and Purina pet food are all part of the company's enormous lineup.

But here's something you might not know. One of Nestlé's most important food-testing laboratories is right here in Dublin.

What's Going On Inside This Dublin Lab?

At 6625 Eiterman Road, scientists, chemists and microbiologists test products and ingredients for things like harmful bacteria, allergens and other potential safety problems.

The facility has been here since 1991, and it's a much bigger operation than you might expect.

Nestlé has described it as its largest and most sophisticated testing center in the world. It's also the company's lead quality assurance center for the Americas, with the ability to test virtually every kind of Nestlé product.

And here's what makes that particularly interesting: Nestlé has said that every product it sells in the United States is tested at its Dublin facility.

So whether it's coffee in your kitchen or food in your dog's bowl, there's a good chance Dublin has played a part in making sure it's safe.

Two Students Detained After Gun at Scioto

Some troubling news out of Dublin Scioto High School this week, where two students have been detained in connection with a handgun found at the school.

It started Wednesday when students told their school resource officer that another student may have displayed a gun.

Administrators and Dublin Police responded, located the student and recovered a handgun. The student was taken to juvenile detention and charged with two felonies: possession of a deadly weapon in a school safety zone and receiving stolen property.

Police then identified a second student who may have been involved in bringing the gun to school or passing it to the first student.

That student arrived at school Thursday for a meeting with administrators and was also detained by police. The school was briefly placed on a building hold while officers escorted the student out.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt. Police and the district's safety team are continuing their investigation.

And it's worth noting that the whole situation came to light because students spoke up. They reported a possible gun to their school resource officer, and police were able to recover an actual handgun.
